The much-anticipated collaboration between Silambarasan and Vetrimaaran for STR 49 is officially moving forward, with the shoot date set for the second or third week of September, according to a report by DT Next. The film, currently being developed under the working title STR 49, is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under V Creations.
Initially announced with director Ramkumar Balakrishnan of Parking fame, the project saw a brief halt after Ramkumar exited due to creative differences. Vetrimaaran then stepped in, re-imagining the film within the Vada Chennai universe, though he clarified it is not a direct sequel to Vada Chennai 2.
The film will share the same timeline and setting as Vada Chennai, with a fresh narrative while retaining some familiar elements. The first promo is expected to release theatrically alongside Rajinikanth’s Coolie or shortly afterward.
Silambarasan, last seen in Thug Life, has reportedly opted for a profit-sharing model for this venture. He also has STR 50 with Desingh Periyasamy and STR 51 with Ashwath Marimuthu in the pipeline.
