Shruti Haasan on Coolie: “She’s not loud, but she’s very strong”

Shruti Haasan on Coolie and Rajinikanth: Talks about playing a quietly strong role, dubbing in three languages, and her inspiring experience working with the superstar.

As the release of Coolie draws near, Shruti Haasan has opened up about her character and her working experience in the much-anticipated Rajinikanth starrer. Her role, while not action-heavy, plays a significant emotional part in the film’s narrative.

Shruti Haasan revealed that when she signed Coolie, many fans speculated on social media that her character might be killed off early. “When I committed to Coolie, many people on Twitter asked if I’m going to be killed! I don’t have a fight sequence. It’s a testosterone-filled world, and I’m the healthy dose of estrogen. I’ve dubbed for myself in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.”

However, she clarified that she doesn’t perform any fight sequences. Instead, her role brings balance to the male-dominated energy of the film. She described herself as a “healthy dose of estrogen” in what she referred to as a testosterone-filled world. Demonstrating her dedication to the project, she also dubbed her own voice in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

Describing Shruti Haasan’s role in Coolie, she explained that the character is not loud or aggressive, but is defined by inner strength and quiet resilience, traits that stand out in a film filled with larger-than-life personalities.

Coolie also marks Shruti Haasan’s first time working with Rajinikanth, a collaboration she considers both surprising and seamless. She found Rajinikanth to be incredibly friendly and positive on set. Though she had heard many stories about his nature, experiencing his kindness and energy firsthand left a lasting impact on her.

Shruti noted that Rajinikanth’s personality is refreshingly unpredictable. Having grown up around a celebrity parent, she expected certain dynamics, but working with Rajinikanth defied those expectations. He was light-hearted, humorous, and approachable throughout the shoot.

She also observed that Rajinikanth often enjoys spending long periods in quiet solitude, without distractions like his phone or constant social interaction. She saw this trait not as detachment, but as a sign of deep self-awareness and peace, something she deeply admired.

Despite his superstar status, Shruti emphasized that Rajinikanth is never intimidating. His communication style is calm, and he genuinely listens to those around him, always making others feel comfortable and respected.

As an actor, Shruti was impressed by Rajinikanth’s precision. She noticed that while his performances seem spontaneous on screen, they are crafted with near-mathematical accuracy. One particular close-up scene with him made her realize the magnitude of the moment: she was sharing the screen with Superstar Rajinikanth.

Coolie, produced by Sun Pictures, features a star-studded cast of Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir Khan in a powerful cameo appearance.
