Selvaraghavan gives update on Aayirathil Oruvan 2 & Pudhupettai 2
Selvaraghavan shares updates on Aayirathil Oruvan 2 and Pudhupettai 2; scripts are progressing, but sequels may take time due to cast schedules and creative refinement.

Director-actor Selvaraghavan, currently busy promoting his upcoming film Aaryan, has shed fresh light on the long-gestating sequels to his cult-films Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and Pudhupettai (2006). The filmmaker emphasized that launching a sequel isn’t a decision to be taken lightly – the script must be rock solid, and the right players must be onboard.
Selvaraghavan revealed that work is underway on the scripts for both Pudhupettai 2 and Aayirathil Oruvan 2. However, he noted that the original lead actors – Karthi (for Aayirathil Oruvan) and Dhanush (for Pudhupettai) are unlikely to be available for at least the next three years. But the director remains optimistic: since both originals ended with opportunities to explore other characters, the sequels can proceed without necessarily having those two actors return.
Reflecting on Aayirathil Oruvan’s journey, Selvaraghavan remarked that although the film eventually achieved cult status, the delayed appreciation “adds no value” to the box-office returns or the immediate reception it got. He made it clear that waiting years for recognition doesn’t substitute for the impact a film needs when it first releases.
Both Aayirathil Oruvan and Pudhupettai are well-regarded for their raw storytelling, daring themes and lasting impact. Selvaraghavan is concurrently working on multiple projects, including 7G Rainbow Colony 2 and Mental Manadhil starring GV Prakash, so fans will need to wait a little longer for an official go-ahead and release schedule on these sequels.
