An acceptable festive entertainer

Seema Raja is a watchable entertainer which has the period portion as the highlight. Ponram could have definitely concentrated more on the comic portions of the film, which are his forte anyways.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Seema Raja is a watchable entertainer which has the period portion as the highlight. The basic plot of Seema Raja is the battle between two villages, and how Sivakarthikeyan’s as a ‘raja parambarai’ comes to settle scores with his oppositions.

Soori’s comedy track and Samantha’s love portions are used as fillers by Ponram in narrating his wafer-thin story. The film boasts of a big starcast such as Simran, Lal, Napoleon and others apart from the lead pair, but not much contributes to the main picture.

After close to two hours of comics, Seema Raja’s positive comes to fore with the period portion that has been shot on a grand scale. Terrific cinematography, good music and set work collide in this 25-minute part of the film that has Sivakarthikeyan in probably his most royal look till date. It’s this portion that gives the film an uplift and gives meaning to the film, even if it’s a little only.

Seema Raja would have been really good if it had concentrated on this period portion alone. Apart from that, there’s not much that might interest you in the film. Ponram could have definitely concentrated more on the comic portions of the film, which are his forte anyways.
