Peppy, chartbuster musical debut from STR!

Unexpectedly so, Sakka Podu Podu Raja is a catholic musical debut from STR which has lots of variations and imaginative hooks. Though the music is mostly computerised, the result is a terrific soundtrack that does the job and makes its way into your playlist quickly. After being an actor, director, lyricist and lot more, STR has proved his mettle in another department, in style.

Kalakku Machan: Singer – Anirudh

A decent intro number, which blazes away with praises to Santhanam’s image. As a composer, STR shows promise with his tune even though the direction does not go right completely.

Kadhal Devathai: Singer – Yuvan Shankar Raja

Totally unexpected stuff from STR, in what is his first album. A complicated, variant sound trip which has many layers and genres coming in and going out. Yuvan Shankar Raja does a fantastic job on the mic, crooning a song which is just not about the lyrics but also inclusive of a ton of vocal modulations. Our PICK.

Unakaaga: Singers – Leon James, Andrea, Dr. Burn

Albeit the composition being uneven, the song has lots of interesting turnarounds that make it worth the listen. Leon has some trouble in getting his lines right, but Andrea and Dr. Burn’s rap portions make up for it all. Peppy stuff, our PICK.

Siru Siru: Singers – Vasudev Krishnan, Keerthana

STR once again surprises us with a lilting melody sung beautifully by debutant Vasudev Krishnan and Keerthana. Despite some needless wandering in the middle, it is a lovely track which just might go all the way. Our next PICK.

Vaa Munima: Singers – TR, Usha Rajendherr

STR ropes in both his mom and dad for this item number which is packed with club beats. The result however, is a barely passable dance track with not many good bits to take home.
