Actor Prashanth is set to headline the Tamil remake of the acclaimed Telugu courtroom drama Court – State vs. A Nobody, with the project officially titled Ranjan – The Advocate. The announcement was made on the actor’s 53rd birthday, confirming long-circulating reports about the remake moving forward.
Veteran actor-filmmaker Thiagarajan, who acquired the Tamil remake rights of the Telugu hit, will direct the film while also backing the project through his production banner. The film marks yet another collaboration between the father-son duo following their earlier remake ventures.
Adding fresh faces to the cast, the makers revealed that Iniyaa Rajakumaran, daughter of actor Devayani, and Hari, son of producer Kathiresan, will make their acting debuts as the film’s leads. Devayani’s other daughter, Priyanka, will also appear in a significant role, while details regarding the rest of the ensemble are expected to be announced soon.
The original Telugu film, directed by Ram Jagadeesh and headlined by Priyadarshi, emerged as both a commercial and critical success upon release. The story revolved around complex legal issues surrounding the POCSO Act and examined how powerful individuals could manipulate legal systems, earning strong audience reception and impressive box-office returns.
For the Tamil adaptation, composer GV Prakash Kumar has been roped in to score the music, while Ravi Yadav will handle cinematography and Senthil Raghavan will oversee production design. The film is currently under production, with shooting already underway.
Ranjan – The Advocate continues Prashanth’s recent phase of revisiting strong remake-driven projects, following the success of Andhagan, and aims to bring a socially relevant courtroom drama to Tamil audiences with a fresh cast and updated narrative treatment.
