“Please release your films with subtitles,” says Dhoni to Tamil film-makers

Subtitles are a vital part of the post-production process nowadays to invite the regional diaspora in the non-Tamil speaking areas to visit theaters. But, only a small chunk of producers in Tamil cinema have understood the real power of subtitling their films though others are gradually coming-of-age now. The recently released Tamil film Kaaka Muttai has been widely celebrated critics, film buffs and audiences across the country since the film is being screened with subtitled prints all over.

Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who courteously met Vignesh and Ramesh, the kids who played Periya Kaaka Muttai and Chinna Kaaka Muttai, in Mumbai offered his piece of mind on subtitling Tamil films. “Tell all the filmmakers in Tamil to please release their films with subtitles. They’re all so good that people from across the country want to watch and understand them,” says director Manikandan who accompanied the kids.
