Parasakthi release date likely to be rescheduled ahead of Pongal 2026

Sivakarthikeyan - Ravi Mohan starrer Parasakthi may advance its release, setting up a high-stakes Pongal box office clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan.

The anticipated film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan, is creating fresh buzz over its release plans as it nears completion ahead of the Pongal 2026 season. Originally slated to hit theatres on January 14th, coinciding with the festival weekend, recent industry chatter suggests the makers may bring the premiere forward by several days, potentially moving it to January 10th.

If these reports are accurate, Parasakthi would open just a day after Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan – a film already generating massive anticipation as his final on-screen appearance before retirement. The proposed scheduling shift, while unofficial at this stage, has sparked discussion among distributors and exhibitors, especially those running single-screen theatres in Tamil Nadu, who may face tighter programming and screen allocation challenges over the lucrative holiday period

Moving Parasakthi earlier would buck the usual trend in Kollywood, where filmmakers often delay releases to avoid head-on clashes with films featuring comparatively bigger stars.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi is already one of the most talked-about releases of early 2026. The historical political drama, which delves into the anti-Hindi agitations of the 1960s, sees Sivakarthikeyan stepping into more serious territory, with the actor describing the film as “inspiring” and reflective of youth power. The cast also includes Atharvaa and Sreeleela, with the latter making her Tamil debut in a pivotal role.

While the official release date remains January 14th at this point, fans and industry watchers will be keenly following any announcements in the coming days as competition heats up for what promises to be a remarkable Pongal box-office showdown.
