OTT platform ‘Viu’ collaborates with local talent from Kollywood

Viu is an OTT Video service with more than 30 million downloads across 15 markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and the Middle East countries of Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Globally Viu Originals will see 70 titles and 900+ episodes of locally produced content by end of 2018 with 30+ original coming from India alone. With the rising trend of regional original content, the company is focusing on bolstering its library. Heading strong into originals from the local markets, Viu is all set to foray into Tamil Nadu with relatable content for the millennial. It aims to redefine the digital entertainment landscape to create a new wave of content with the launch of four new premium digital shows, short-form content, and movies.

“To achieve their objectives with global lineage and local expertise, Viu is extremely happy to have strategic partnerships with AP International Films, a pioneer in South Indian movies entertainment and the largest distributors of Tamil and Malayalam cinema. Through this collaboration, Viu is also working with some of the best minds in the industry. Sameer Bharat Ram, known for the hit film Uriyadi as a producer, is making two series for the platform. With his in-house production company ‘Super Talkies’ he is proud to release– ‘Kalyanamum Kadanthu Pogum’ which will be directed by renowned Nalan Kumarasamy and ‘Madras Mansion’. Another established writer, filmmaker cum comics creator – JS Nandini, who is best known for ‘Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru’ has also allied with ‘Make Believe Production’,” read an official statement.

Together, they will bring a very interesting concept to Tamil spectators, titled ‘Nila Nila Odivaa’. Lastly, for its fourth show, Viu has associated with the leading digital producer and independent media agency of the South – ‘TrendLoud’. They will be presenting a comical satire called ‘Door No. 403’ which will grab the viewers’ attention with its hysterical wit. With local talent, strategic alliances and strong emphasis on regional content for the four new shows, Viu India will entertain the local global Tamil audience with a bang. Viu will officially launch its Tamil content on 24th July.
