The OM Pre release event speech has grabbed attention, with Dhanush addressing recent rumours surrounding him, praising his co-stars and sharing interesting details about the film. Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, OM features Dhanush alongside Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela. The film also marks an important collaboration with music composer Sai Abhyankkar.
Speaking at the event, Dhanush described OM as a multi-hero film rather than a multi-starrer. He named Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Sai Abhyankkar as the film’s other four heroes. He also praised director Rajkumar Periyasamy for his confidence in the script and his understanding of audience expectations. Dhanush added that the director wanted him to perform the song ‘Alaakaa Loova’ for his fans, even though a dance number was not essential to the film.
Dhanush also shared an interesting story about recording ‘Alaakaa Loova’. Sai Abhyankkar initially sent him the tune and asked him to sing the song. However, Dhanush felt that the pitch was too high for his voice. Despite his hesitation, both Sai Abhyankkar and Rajkumar Periyasamy encouraged him to give it a try. He eventually spent three and a half hours recording the song. However, the composer later felt that his own rendition would suit the track better. Dhanush jokingly recalled that this was the only song he had recorded that was eventually removed.
The actor also spoke warmly about Mammootty and his experience working with the veteran star. Dhanush admitted that he initially found Mammootty rather reserved during their earlier interaction. However, their collaboration on OM helped him discover the actor’s sweet, loving and humorous side. Mammootty, meanwhile, revealed that OM marks his return to Tamil cinema after seven years. He also described the film as a serious story involving ordinary people who put their personal lives aside to protect others.
Dhanush further addressed the recent rumours surrounding his personal and professional life. Without naming anyone, he said that several assumptions were being circulated about people operating behind him or influencing his decisions. He made his stand clear by stating that God was behind him, his fans stood behind him, and the people were by his side. He also urged his fans to continue their welfare activities without affecting their family responsibilities. With the possibility of heavy rains during November and December, he requested them to extend help to people in need.
Sharing his thoughts on being an underdog, Dhanush said that he had faced constant underestimation throughout his career. However, he believes that such criticism has only motivated him to work harder. He added that winning despite being underestimated gives him a special sense of satisfaction. The actor also thanked his fans for their continued support and asked those attending the event to return home safely.
Director Rajkumar Periyasamy shared that Dhanush was instrumental in bringing OM to life after the project faced the possibility of being abandoned. He revealed that the film was confirmed during the success of Amaran, but certain developments later left him uncertain about its future. However, Dhanush called him one day and offered to produce the film himself, taking ownership of the project and helping the team get back on track within ten days. Speaking about the story, Rajkumar explained that OM focuses on people who put aside their personal lives and continue working to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens. He described it as a commercial entertainer that also carries an important thought. The director also expressed his gratitude to Mammootty for accepting the role of Siyaa – Burma Karthikeyan, revealing that he had initially presented the character through a PowerPoint presentation. He praised Sreeleela’s performance, noting that audiences would see a different side of her beyond her dancing abilities. He also appreciated Sai Pallavi’s commitment to her police role and described her performance as masterful. Praising Sai Abhyankkar, Rajkumar highlighted his musical foundation, versatility and ability to bring depth and silence to the film’s background score.
Mammootty, meanwhile, revealed that OM marks his return to Tamil cinema after seven years, following Peranbu. He shared that he had been keen to act in another Tamil film but had not received the right opportunity for some time. Calling OM a memorable experience, he expressed happiness about sharing screen space with Dhanush and joked about his son possibly joining them in the future. He also revealed that the film features several stories, including those involving people living in the hills, Sai Pallavi’s character and Dhanush’s character. Mammootty further recalled that a shoot initially planned for 45 days eventually extended to six months, with several night schedules. He added that while his speech at the event might be entertaining, the film itself would be serious and emotionally impactful.
Earlier, producer Sreyas described OM as a vintage mass commercial entertainer made on a budget of Rs. 200 crore. He revealed that Rajkumar Periyasamy had initially narrated three stories to Dhanush, but the team eventually chose OM. The director also recalled how Dhanush stepped in to produce the project when it was close to being abandoned.
Sai Pallavi spoke about her role as a police officer and thanked Rajkumar Periyasamy for believing in her performance. Sreeleela expressed her happiness about working with Dhanush and Mammootty. Meanwhile, Sai Abhyankkar revealed that the album features 18 tracks, with the team exploring different musical styles. Rajkumar Periyasamy also praised the composer’s musical roots and predicted that his background score would offer several surprises.
With Dhanush’s heartfelt words, interesting behind-the-scenes revelations and appreciation for the entire team, the OM pre-release event offered a glimpse into the making of the film and the bond shared by its cast and crew.
OM gears up for a grand worldwide theatrical release on November 20, with the trailer expected to drop soon from the makers.
