Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has officially been confirmed as the music director for filmmaker Maniratnam’s upcoming project starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. The announcement ends weeks of speculation surrounding the film’s musical department.
The makers revealed the update today, confirming that AR Rahman will compose the soundtrack for the yet-to-be-titled film, which also features Sai Pallavi as the female lead. The project is being produced jointly by Madras Talkies, Lyca Productions, and India Talkies.
Earlier reports had suggested that young composer Sai Abhyankkar might score the music for the film. However, the latest confirmation puts those rumors to rest and marks another collaboration between Maniratnam and AR Rahman, one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated director–composer partnerships.
This film also reunites Vijay Sethupathi with Maniratnam after their previous collaboration in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018). The actor had recently hinted that their new project would explore a completely different narrative space, raising curiosity among fans about the film’s genre and tone.
While the makers have confirmed the core team, details about the storyline, extended cast, and technical crew remain under wraps. Industry buzz suggests the film is currently in early stages of development, with production expected to begin later this year.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi has multiple projects in various stages of production, while Sai Pallavi is preparing for several upcoming releases across languages. With Rahman now officially on board, expectations surrounding Maniratnam’s next directorial have significantly grown.
