Mookuthi Amman 2 team shares key details at pre-release event; Sundar C confirms no connection to first part

Sundar C, Urvashi, Regina Cassandra, Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi and producer Ishari K Ganesh share insights about the film, its pan-India release and its connection to the original.

The team behind Mookuthi Amman 2 shared insights about the film at its pre-release event, discussing its story, visual effects, performances and pan-Indian release plans. Director Sundar C and producer Ishari K Ganesh also clarified that the sequel has no narrative connection to the 2020 original.

Sundar C explained that he does not develop films simply to accommodate an actor’s availability. Instead, he prefers to identify a story first and then choose the cast that suits it. He revealed that the idea for Mookuthi Amman 2 emerged after Ishari K Ganesh approached him with the suggestion of making a sequel. The director already had a similar concept in mind, which made the collaboration feel like a divine intervention.

Producer Ishari K Ganesh reiterated that the upcoming film shares no storyline with the first instalment, apart from featuring Nayanthara and Urvashi. He praised Nayanthara’s dedication to the titular role, saying she had fully immersed herself in portraying the goddess.

The producer also confirmed that Mookuthi Amman 2 marks the first pan-Indian release for Vels Film International. Red Giant Movies will distribute the film, which is set to release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. He invited audiences to experience the divine entertainer in theatres.

Nayanthara’s performance and the film’s scale were among the major talking points at the event. Kushmitha Ganesh, who was present at the gathering, praised the director’s approach to family entertainment and Hip Hop Tamizha’s music. She also highlighted Nayanthara’s screen presence, describing her as a standout performer in the film.

Urvashi shared a personal connection with the Mookuthi Amman title. She recalled childhood memories of visiting Bhagavathi Amman temple during Pongal celebrations with her mother in Mandhaikadu. However, she clarified that the new film is not a continuation of the original story. She also praised the scale of Sundar C’s latest directorial effort, highlighting its visual effects and CGI. Urvashi further teased Regina Cassandra’s character as one of the film’s major surprises.

Regina Cassandra spoke about playing Bhairavi, describing the role as her first full-fledged commercial villain character in two decades. She credited Sundar C’s vision and commitment to Tamil cinema for inspiring her participation. Regina also praised Nayanthara and hinted that the confrontation between their characters would be an exciting aspect of the film.

Music composer Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi described Mookuthi Amman 2 as a film that evokes the nostalgic feeling of devotional movies audiences enjoyed during their childhood. He called it a Sundar C spectacle and expressed confidence that the film would satisfy viewers expecting the director’s signature style of entertainment.

With its emphasis on mythology, visual effects, a new conflict and a prominent ensemble cast, Mookuthi Amman 2 aims to offer a fresh cinematic experience rather than repeat the original film’s storyline. The team’s remarks at the pre-release event have also highlighted its ambition to reach audiences across multiple languages.
