Since yesterday, Malaysian distributor Malik Streams sparked excitement among fans by announcing a “Meet & Greet Superstar Rajinikanth” contest in connection with the upcoming film Coolie. Fans were thrilled at the rare opportunity to meet the legendary actor. However, confusion arose earlier today when speculation on social media suggested that the contest might be untrue. This caused concern among fans, many of whom feared the announcement was a hoax.
Clearing the air, PRO of Rajinikanth, Riaz Ahmed clarified that, “Due to an earlier miscommunication, there was some confusion regarding the Coolie Meet & Greet Thalaivar contest by Malik Streams. We now confirm that the contest is valid, organised with the required details, and open for participation. We thank all fans for their understanding and unwavering support.”
Adding to the excitement, a similar contest by Prathyangira Cinemas, the North American distributor of Coolie, has also been verified as genuine. Contest winners from North America will get to meet the Superstar in Chennai, making it a global celebration for Rajinikanth’s fanbase.
In North America, Coolie has grossed over $6.6 million, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in the region, surpassing Ponniyin Selvan Part 1. Impressively, two of Superstar Rajinikanth’s films now rank in the territory’s top three, with Jailer at No. 3, while 2.0 holds the No. 5 position. Leo now stands at No. 4. Despite its strong run, Coolie is still approaching its North American breakeven mark, estimated at around $7.5 million.
Globally, the film has already grossed over $18 million (approximately ₹150 crore) from overseas markets alone. With the makers reporting a staggering 404+ crore collection worldwide in just four days, and the second weekend currently in progress, all eyes are on how much more this Rajinikanth – Lokesh Kanagaraj flick will rake in at the global box office.
