Acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj, known for his socially rooted and emotionally charged storytelling, recently opened up about his upcoming film Bison Kaalamaadan in a heartfelt interview.
Speaking about his collaboration with Dhruv Vikram, Mari shared how the journey began with a deep conversation involving Chiyaan Vikram himself. “In life, if someone wants to succeed and reach a big place, the actor must have that desire. We discussed how Vikram sir’s son would be, and I told him – making this film isn’t an ordinary thing. He has to travel with me for a year, trust me, and not do any other project in between,” he revealed.
Mari further shared how the team waited for a year to finalize the right cast. “We waited a year for Ameer, only he could do justice to that role. Pasupathi’s role is even bigger. I had approached SJ Suryah and even Chiyaan Vikram for it,” he said. “But Vikram sir told me, ‘I think Dhruv should come alone,’ and that reason felt valid,” the director added.
Mari also spoke about Dhruv’s dedication to the project. “A few days after we started, Dhruv was struggling a lot. I even asked if we should try another story. But he said, ‘No, this is your dream project. I trust you and I’ll look after you like my own father.’ Those words really moved me,” Mari recalled emotionally.
The director shared a lighter moment about his family urging him to make a love story. “Even my eight-year-old daughter tells me my films never make her laugh. I’ve promised her that I’ll make at least one happy film for her someday,” he smiled.
At a recent promotional event, Dhruv Vikram said, “I’ve done two films so far, but Bison Kaalamaadan is my real first film. I’ve given my 100%. You can watch it with family or friends – but don’t miss it!” Given that Adithya Varma was a remake and Mahaan was positioned more as ‘Chiyaan60’, it’s being clarified that Dhruv sees Bison as his proper debut.
Bison Kaalamaadan, starring Dhruv Vikram, Anupama, Pasupathi and others, is directed by Mari Selvaraj, with music by Nivas K. Prasanna. The film is set for a Diwali weekend release on October 17th, jointly produced by Neelam Studios and Applause Entertainment.
