Maniratnam’s next likely to star Vijay Sethupathi and Rukmini Vasanth?

Maniratnam is reportedly joining hands with Vijay Sethupathi for his next after Thug Life, with Rukmini Vasanth in talks to play the female lead.

A month ago, reports suggested that ace filmmaker Maniratnam’s next project after Thug Life would feature Dhruv Vikram in a romantic drama. However, new industry buzz indicates a major change in plans as Maniratnam is now likely to collaborate with Vijay Sethupathi for his upcoming venture.

According to sources, Maniratnam has already narrated the script to Vijay Sethupathi, who is said to have been impressed by the story. Interestingly, the same script was initially pitched to Silambarasan, but with the actor occupied with Arasan and his film with Dragon fame Ashwath, the director has reportedly moved ahead with Vijay Sethupathi. Talks are currently underway with Madhraasi/Kantara actress Rukmini Vasanth to play the female lead.

If confirmed, this project will mark the second collaboration between Maniratnam and Vijay Sethupathi, following their ensemble hit Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, which also starred Silambarasan TR, Arvind Swamy, and Arun Vijay.

While some speculations still suggest Dhruv Vikram might be associated with the film in some capacity, there has been no official word yet. Further updates are awaited on whether the project will feature him or be an entirely new story led by Vijay Sethupathi.
