Maareesan brings together Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil in roles that challenge their usual on-screen images. As per the sources, Vadivelu plays a wealthy man suffering from Alzheimer’s, a far cry from his trademark comedic roles. When Fahadh’s character notices him withdrawing a large sum from an ATM, he pretends to offer a lift, planning to rob him during the journey from Thiruvannamalai to Nagercoil. But as the road trip unfolds, an unexpected bond forms between the two, and the real question becomes whether the plan goes through at all.
According to the director, Maareesan flips expectations: Vadivelu takes on a grounded, emotionally intense role, while Fahadh leans into a character with eccentric shades, often seen in Vadivelu’s past work. The filmmaker promises a refreshing unpredictability in both performances, offering audiences something they’ve never seen from either actor before.
Maareesan hits theatres on July 25th, sharing its release date with Thalaivan Thalaivi, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen.
