Lokesh Kanagaraj to return to his LCU zone after his acting debut?

Lokesh Kanagaraj is set to return to his LCU with Kaithi 2 starring Karthi, after completing his acting debut directed by Arun Matheswaran.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, one of Tamil cinema’s most celebrated modern filmmakers, is reportedly gearing up to return to his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) after his acting debut. Initially, fans expected Lokesh to direct the much-anticipated Rajinikanth – Kamal Haasan reunion film, but with Nelson’s name now being linked to that project, new reports suggest Lokesh will instead focus on his next directorial – Kaithi 2 starring Karthi.

Lokesh is currently busy completing his acting debut under Arun Matheswaran’s direction, and once he wraps up that commitment, he is expected to begin pre-production work on Kaithi 2. The sequel to his 2019 blockbuster Kaithi, this film holds a special place in the hearts of fans as it is considered the core of the LCU, connecting Kaithi, Vikram, and the upcoming Rolex spinoff.

Excitement surrounding Kaithi 2 has intensified, especially with reports suggesting that Suriya’s Rolex character will have a crucial connection in the film. This crossover is expected to lay the foundation for the much-awaited Vikram 2, making Kaithi 2 a pivotal chapter in Lokesh’s expanding cinematic universe.

Meanwhile, Karthi, who delivered a career-defining performance as Dilli in Kaithi, is currently awaiting the release of Vaa Vaathiyaar on December 5th, Sardar 2 release in early 2026, and is shooting for Marshal. Once he completes his current projects, he is expected to join hands with Lokesh once again to kick off Kaithi 2.
