Lokesh Kanagaraj on Coolie: A Tribute to Thalapathi and Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life persona!
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has shared heartfelt insights about his upcoming film Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, whose release is just a month away on August 14th. Lokesh revealed that among Rajinikanth’s illustrious filmography, Thalapathi holds a special place in his heart, and he consciously aimed to maintain that balance while crafting Coolie. The film centers around the union, the harbour, and labourers, bringing a grounded yet powerful narrative to the screen. After watching the film during dubbing, Rajinikanth embraced Lokesh and expressed that Coolie felt reminiscent of Thalapathi to him, a compliment that deeply touched the director and gave him immense satisfaction.
Lokesh also recounted that he originally penned a fantasy film for Rajinikanth, which the superstar immediately approved, but logistical challenges meant it would have taken at least a year and a half to produce. In the meantime, he wrote Coolie, a film that allows him to explore new techniques and styles while remaining true to Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life persona.
Adding to the excitement, the two tracks released under Anirudh’s musical have already become chart-busters, setting high expectations among fans.
