Jason Sanjay, who is gearing up for his directorial debut with Sigma, has opened up about the pressure that comes with being the son of actor-turned-politician Vijay. The young filmmaker says he is aware of the expectations surrounding his debut but prefers to let his work determine how audiences perceive him.
Jason Sanjay acknowledged that his family background naturally brings both affection and curiosity towards Sigma. At the same time, he expects a certain amount of scrutiny and negativity because of his surname. However, he believes that the film itself will answer questions about his abilities once audiences experience it.
The filmmaker also addressed perceptions that his entry into cinema may have been easier because of his father. Jason said he does not feel the need to explain or justify his journey to those who make such assumptions. For him, the most important thing is to create films and allow the audience to judge his work.
According to Jason Sanjay, the attention surrounding his debut has also motivated him to work harder. He feels the pressure attached to his family name has ultimately become a positive force, pushing him to give his best while making Sigma.
The director also spoke about how his perception of being Vijay’s son changed as he grew older. While he enjoyed the recognition that came with his family during childhood, he gradually became more conscious of the responsibility attached to his father’s fame. That awareness, he says, has made him take his own journey more seriously.
Jason Sanjay is now looking to establish his identity through filmmaking rather than relying on his family legacy. His directorial debut Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and is said to blend action, adventure and heist elements. The film is slated for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
With Sigma marking Jason Sanjay’s first major step as a filmmaker, the expectations surrounding the project are naturally high. For Jason, however, the focus remains clear: allow the film to speak for itself and build his identity through his work.
