Jana Nayagan producer moves to withdraw writ petition in CBFC case
The makers choose to approach the CBFC’s Revising Committee, signalling a shift away from legal proceedings and reviving hopes for the long-delayed Vijay-starrer’s release.

KVN Production LLP has formally conveyed its decision to withdraw the writ petition filed against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in connection with Jana Nayagan. The development was confirmed after the production house’s counsel on record, Vijayan Subramanian, submitted a letter to the Madras High Court Registry expressing the producer’s intent to step away from the ongoing litigation.
According to the letter, the makers have chosen to approach the CBFC’s Revising Committee, opting to follow the statutory certification process rather than pursue the matter legally. As a result, the writ petition is expected to be listed under the caption ‘For Withdrawal’ before Justice PT Asha on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The decision marks a significant shift in the trajectory of the film’s long running censor related delay. Jana Nayagan, headlined by Thalapathy Vijay and directed by H Vinoth, has been under scrutiny following disagreements over its certification, which ultimately stalled its planned release.
The delay had caused widespread disappointment among Vijay’s fans, especially since the film has been officially announced as the actor’s final cinematic outing before his full fledged entry into politics. With the producer now choosing to engage directly with the Revising Committee, there is renewed optimism that the certification process and the film’s release could finally move forward.
For fans eagerly awaiting updates, this development offers a hopeful sign that Jana Nayagan may soon clear its final hurdles and reach the big screen.
