Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has created box-office history by becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action entertainer has crossed the ₹700 crore mark worldwide. It is also the first Tamil film to achieve this milestone.
According to trade soruces, Jailer 2 collected over ₹730+ crore worldwide within 11 days of its theatrical release. The film’s performance has remained strong beyond its opening weekend. It has attracted audiences across domestic and international markets, with its dubbed versions also contributing to the overall collection. The latest milestone further strengthens Rajinikanth’s position among Tamil cinema’s biggest box-office stars.
With the ₹700 crore barrier now behind it, the next major target is the ₹1,000 crore mark. No Tamil film has reached this milestone so far. Whether Jailer 2 can achieve this historic feat remains to be seen. Its continued theatrical run and audience response in the coming weeks will play a key role in determining how far it can go.
Meanwhile, the film is also approaching another significant milestone in its home territory. Jailer 2 has reportedly grossed more than ₹175 crore in Tamil Nadu so far and is now targeting the ₹200 crore mark in the state.
If it crosses this milestone, Jailer 2 will become Rajinikanth’s first film to gross ₹200 crore in Tamil Nadu. It would also join the select group of Tamil films that have achieved this feat, including Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 and Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo.
The film still has ground to cover to reach the ₹200 crore target in Tamil Nadu. However, its record-breaking worldwide performance has kept expectations high. Its next few weeks in theatres will determine whether it can add another historic achievement to its growing list of records.
Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 sees Rajinikanth return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The ensemble cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film also features appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Hrithik Roshan and Jackie Shroff, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music.
