Interview: Lokesh Kanagaraj on Kaithi 2, AA23 and Jana Nayagan cameo
Lokesh addresses rumors, confirms Kaithi 2 after AA23, speaks on the Rajinikanth-Kamal project, and acknowledges his cameo in Jana Nayagan.

Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed several speculations and clarified his future commitments during an interaction held today, offering a transparent update on his career roadmap and the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
Responding to rumors suggesting that he had exited Kaithi 2 due to salary issues or that the LCU had concluded, Lokesh firmly dismissed both claims. He confirmed that his next directorial venture after the Allu Arjun project will be Kaithi 2. Emphasizing his long-term vision, he stated that Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, and a standalone Rolex film remain firm commitments, adding that he would not move on without completing them. He also reassured fans that the LCU will expand properly very soon, confirming that Benz is also part of the shared universe.
When asked about his film with Allu Arjun, Lokesh remained cautious, stating that while the project has been announced, details including the title should await an official confirmation from the production house, indirectly fueling speculation around Irumbukai Maayavi.
Lokesh also opened up about a proposed collaboration with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan following Coolie. Despite investing significant time in scripting, he stepped away after realizing their expectations leaned towards a lighter film, a genre he felt he could not authentically deliver.
Addressing criticism around Coolie, Lokesh noted that the film enjoyed a 35-day theatrical run and was profitable. He acknowledged feedback constructively, expressing his intent to create films that connect more deeply while thanking critics, reviewers, and online creators for their engagement.
He also confirmed a cameo appearance in Jana Nayagan, revealing it was a friendly request from Vinoth and Vijay.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently shooting for his acting debut DC, directed by Arun Matheswaran, with the film now in its final stages of production. Once the shoot wraps up, the filmmaker will move into full-fledged work on Allu Arjun’s AA23, which is presently in the pre-production phase. We wish the acclaimed director the very best as he gears up for an exciting and ambitious lineup ahead.
