A wishy-washy affair!

Inji Iduppazhagi might have got the message across, but it doesn't work as an entertainer, after being billed to. The dry alien feel of a dubbed film swoops in as another bummer. Had Prakash taken care on making his creativity hit the marquee, this would have been a memorable film in Anushka's prestigious career graph. What comes here, is nowhere close.

Director Prakash Kovelamudi’s Inji Iduppazhagi is a mix-up of sorts, a film where the bubbly performance of Anushka takes the driving seat with everything else tucked away into the boot. With appreciable ideas which end up with mediocre execution, the film sways to the become a big, bright bore with just a handful of good moments which manage to widen your jawline.

With a central theme as obesity, Inji Iduppazhagi enforces the topic in full form throughout, having the callbacks thrown in at regular intervals. Every five minutes, there is a dialogue or a proceeding which reminds you that this film is all about getting thin and getting married. Each and every actor in the film has a piece of advice on keeping up your fitness, but the lead actress in Anushka doesn’t seem to really care about engulfing any of that up. At the end of it all, Inji Iduppazhagi feels like a two hour fitness class with no actual result.

With not much working in her favor, the enormously talented Anushka takes up things in her hands and excelling in her acts. As the bubbly obese woman who is huge in body and heart, she leaves no stone unturned in owning the show. Inji Iduppazhagi will definitely go down as one of her most unique, brave makeovers in her career. On the other side are the plastic actors such as Arya and Sonal Chauhan, who have no big takeaways except for embedding current affairs such as Swacch Bharat into their characters. Prakash Raj as the villain is wasted, while Urvasi doesn’t have much to do other screaming at people and being the usual Indian mother. No comments on the plethora of cameos which flash up in the second half in quick succession.

The cinematography and editing pass muster here, while MM Keeravani’s music nosedives after his magnificent outing in Baahubali.

Inji Iduppazhagi might have got the message across, but it doesn’t work as an entertainer, after being billed to. The dry alien feel of a dubbed film swoops in as another bummer.
