Kamal Haasan and director Shankar are moving forward with Indian 3, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the much-awaited project. The makers have officially confirmed that post-production work has commenced, bringing the third installment of the popular franchise back into focus.
The announcement was accompanied by a new poster carrying the words “The Resurgence Begins” and “War Mode”. The makers also reaffirmed Kamal Haasan’s return as Senapathy, the veteran vigilante who has remained central to the franchise.
Indian 3 Explores a New Chapter in the Franchise
Unlike its predecessor, Indian 3 is expected to explore the backstory of Veerasekaran Balram, Senapathy’s father, who was also a freedom fighter. Kamal Haasan is set to portray this character, adding another dimension to the actor’s association with the franchise.
The story was introduced through the mid-credits sequence of Indian 2, which arrived in theatres in 2024. The upcoming film is expected to expand the franchise’s history while exploring the events that shaped Senapathy’s journey.
Shankar and Kamal Haasan Reunite for the Third Instalment

A considerable portion of the third instalment was reportedly filmed alongside Indian 2. The commencement of post-production marks an important step towards completing the project, although the makers have yet to announce an official release date.

Several familiar faces from Indian 2 are set to return for the third installment. The cast includes Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha and SJ Suryah, alongside Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
Anirudh Ravichander returns as the music composer, while Ravi Varman handles cinematography. Muthuraj Thangavel is associated with the film’s production design.
Lyca Productions is backing the project, with Subaskaran and GKM Tamil Kumaran serving as producers. Shankar has written and directed the film, continuing his long-standing collaboration with Kamal Haasan.
