“I’m not an atheist,” says Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan, who celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday, spoke in length about atheism, beef ban, rising intolerance in the country, entering politics and returning national awards. “I’m one of those people who have accepted death as a part of life. That’s why I celebrate both my birthday and my father’s death anniversary on the same day. I never learnt rationalism through politics. Whatever we convey through politics will have an implicit meaning to it,” said Kamal Haasan.

“Let people keep their gods inside their pockets. Don’t inflict your religious beliefs on others. I say this all religions. Only those who are intolerant will say they will destruct temples. I don’t subscribe to the word ‘Atheism.’ I would like to clarify that I’m not an atheist. I’m a rationalist,” Kamal added.

His forthcoming film Thoongaa Vanam is all set for release on November 10th alongside Ajith’s Vedalam.
