Gethu Movie Preview

Shedding his happy-go-lucky lead role makeovers and undeterred by the failure of his previous outing Nannbenda, Udhayanidhi Stalin swifly moved on to Gethu, a slick crime thriller, which is all set for Pongal release on January 14th alongside Bala’s Thaarai Thappattai, Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan and Vishal’s Kathakali.

Produced by Udhay’s home banner Red Giant Movies, Gethu is directed by Thiru Kumaran, a former associate of AR Murugadoss, who made his debut in Sivakarthikeyan’s Maan Karate, which managed to yield profits despite lackluster reviews from critics and film buffs. Both Thiru Kumaran and Udhay are pinning high hopes on Gethu, which appears to be the dark-horse among the Pongal releases, with low-key promotions.

After teaming up with Nayanthara in two consecutive films, Gethu will see Udhay romance Amy Jackson, another A-list actress. It also marks Udhay’s first film without his trusted collaborator Santhanam, who has always played second fiddle in his projects and been a major selling point to steer audiences to theaters. In fact, Udhay has generously agreed to this on various occasions saying, “Santhanam is the hero.” Now, when quizzed about the title ‘Gethu’, he is once again to happy to take a backseat and says, “This title is for Sathyaraj Sir. It befits his character in the film. Not mine.”

Another interesting fact about Gethu is Vikranth, who earned raves for his magnificent performance in Pandianaadu, will be seen playing the role of villain. Harris Jayaraj’s songs have been received well by his fans and Gethu marks his fourth uninterrupted association with Udhay. Sukumar, who created magic with his gorgeous frames in Kumki and Mynaa, has worked in the film and a glimpse of his breathtaking visuals was seen in the film’s trailer.

PLOT

Gethu is about how an affectionate son (Udhay) and his socially-conscious father (Sathyaraj) get themselves out when trapped in an unfortunate situation.
Udhayanidhi Stalin
Gethu is a crime thriller set entirely in a hill station. So the director and cinematographer planned to change my appearance and that’s how we arrived at my look
Amy Jackson plays Nandhini in the film and has done a cute role. The first half has a beautiful romance track. Right from the first day, she used to get the dialogues in English, understand and memorize it thoroughly. Next day, she will come to the sets and complete everything in single takes
Director Thiru Kumaran
Udhay plays an affectionate son, who looks to stay away from trouble, while Sathyaraj, who believes in questioning injustice, plays Udhay’s dad in this film
Amy Jackson
I play a Tamil brahmin in Gethu and will come totally in ethnic wears. Gethu is an action thriller shot in international standards at great locales

Vikranth

I play a very stylish character with just one dialogue. It’s not just the appearance of the character, but the way it has been designed is also very stylish. Since I play a character from the Navy, I had to look muscular. It’s a story about a sniper from Indian Navy MARCOS

Gethu is releasing in over 210 screens in Tamil Nadu.
