Following a lackluster outing in Nenjil Thunivirunthal, Suseenthiran has churned out another excruciatingly monotonous drama in Genius, which stars newcomer Roshan in the lead role.
The film, which revolves around the ill-effects of a rigid contemporary education system, is far-fetched and very unrealistic. Suseenthiran looks like a filmmaker who has distanced himself from reality with his self-obsessed themes and ideologies about modern society.
Due to excessive stress at workplace, a man (played by Roshan) loses mental balance and suffers from Schizophrenia as identified by the psychologist (Jayaprakash) in the movie. The overflow of melodrama provides viewers a serial like experience and the exaggerated characters seem to appear from a utopian world.
Suseenthiran’s conviction in his script is earnest, but the staging and writing are quite flat that the entire film plays out like a television serial, with poorly constructed scenes and emotions. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the only solace in an otherwise monotonous film.
The social message conveyed by the film doesn’t hit hard since the narration lifeless and lacks enough drama to hold the attention of audiences.
Verdict: A middling drama!
