Gatta Kusthi 2 is about relationships, not just wrestling, says Vishnu Vishal

Vishnu Vishal reveals how Gatta Kusthi 2 explores relationships, gender roles, emotional moments and a fresh perspective on family life.

Actor-producer Vishnu Vishal has shared several interesting details about Gatta Kusthi 2, revealing that the sequel will take a completely different route from its predecessor while retaining the entertainment value that made the first film a success.

Speaking about the film, Vishnu Vishal clarified that Gatta Kusthi 2 is not centered on women like the original. Instead, the sequel explores relationships and the social dynamics surrounding a man who takes on the role of a house husband.

“Gatta Kusthi was about a woman. Gatta Kusthi 2 is about relationships. We explore what happens when a man becomes a house husband, how society views him, and the changes it brings to his life. The politics within that idea is presented beautifully while keeping the film entertaining from start to finish,” said Vishnu Vishal.

The actor also expressed immense confidence in the film’s climax. According to him, audiences who enjoyed the interval block of the first installment can expect an equally satisfying payoff in the sequel.

He revealed that several new characters have been introduced, adding fresh layers to the narrative. “As much as audiences loved the interval block of Gatta Kusthi, I believe they will enjoy the climax of Gatta Kusthi 2 equally. Every actor has done a fantastic job, and the film will definitely entertain audiences,” he stated.

Interestingly, Vishnu Vishal described the film as one that caters to men as well. The actor, who once again gets to step into the wrestling arena, admitted that sports-based stories remain close to his heart.

“Gatta Kusthi 2 is also a film for men. I get to do kusthi again, which is always exciting. My wife especially enjoys my sports films because she feels I perform my best in them. Even my next film with Arunraja Kamaraj is a sports-based story,” he said.

Apart from the comedy and sports elements, Vishnu Vishal highlighted a particularly emotional sequence in the second half. He believes the five-minute stretch will strongly resonate with women and become one of the film’s most memorable moments.

“There is a five-minute emotional stretch in the second half that women will connect with deeply. It is among the most emotional portions of the film, and I am eager to know my wife’s reaction after she watches it,” he added.

The actor also revealed that industry insiders have already watched the film and responded positively. According to him, distributors appreciated the sequel without comparing it to the first part and felt it works effectively as a standalone entertainer.

Vishnu Vishal emphasized that Gatta Kusthi 2 was never conceived as a forced sequel. Instead, he believes the film has a genuine story to tell and could pave the way for follow-ups to some of his other successful films if audiences embrace it.

“If this film succeeds, it could open doors for sequels like Ratsasan 2, Indru Netru Naalai 2, FIR 2 and Mundasupatti 2. Audiences today are more willing to accept continuations when there is a meaningful story behind them,” he remarked.

The actor also shed light on the film’s impressive business prospects. He noted that OTT giant Netflix acquired the digital rights even before production commenced, making it the highest pre-release business venture of his career.

“Gatta Kusthi 2 has achieved the biggest pre-release business of my career. Netflix acquired the OTT rights before the shoot even began, and discussions are currently underway with several Tamil Nadu distributors,” he revealed.

The recently released teaser further reinforced the film’s promise. It showcases the return of Veera and Keerthi, but with a refreshing role reversal. While Keerthi continues her pursuit of wrestling glory, Veera takes charge of household responsibilities and supports her ambitions. The teaser blends family drama, sports, comedy, action and emotions, while hinting at a major turning point that alters the couple’s journey. The visuals also suggest bigger stakes, larger-scale entertainment and a more emotional narrative than the original film.

Directed by Chella Ayyavu, Gatta Kusthi 2 stars Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunaas, Munishkanth, Kaali Venkat, Karunakaran, Mokksha and Zara Zyanna. The film features music by Sean Roldan and is jointly produced by Vishnu Vishal Studioz and Vels Film International. The much-awaited sequel is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 3rd.
