Karthi, who is currently shooting for Marshal directed by Tamizh (Taanakkaran fame), was originally slated to begin filming Kaithi 2 in 2026. However, recent developments surrounding Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming film featuring both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have caused the Kaithi 2 schedule to face potential delays.
According to Valai Pechu, with Lokesh’s new project likely taking precedence, Karthi may have a freed-up schedule, opening the door for him to collaborate on a fresh venture with director Sundar C. This new film could potentially commence shooting as early as December 2025, although no official confirmation has been made yet.
Currently, Sundar C is busy filming Mookuthi Amman 2, starring Nayanthara alongside an ensemble cast, with production backed by Vels Film International.
Kaithi 2 remains one of the most anticipated sequels, following Lokesh’s 2019 blockbuster Kaithi, which launched the Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe (LCU). Besides Kaithi 2, Karthi’s upcoming projects include Vaa Vaathiyaar, which was postponed from its planned February release and is now expected by late 2025, and Sardar 2, which is currently in post-production with no official release date announced.
