Director Gnana Rajasekaran opens up about ‘Ramanujan’

Three-time National award winner Director Gnana Rajasekaran has a penchant for making biographical films. His films Periyar and Bharathi on EV Ramasamy and Subramaniya Bharathi catapulted him as one of the most respected filmmakers in Tamil cinema. Now, he is ready with his third biopic Ramanujan on the mathematical genius. The film’s teaser which was released yesterday garnered good response on social media.

“The inspiration for this film came from Good Will Hunting,” says Gnana Sekaran candidly. Ramanujan marks the debut of Gemini Ganesan’s grand son Abhinay Vaddi, who plays the titular role. “Ramanujan’s life portrays how academic institutions, the intelligentsia and family treat a genius. Even today the situation is the same. A genius is considered abnormal and society tries to change him, make him average,” adds Gnana Rajasekaran.
