Superstar Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated Dharman, his 173rd film, is progressing at a brisk pace under director Ashwath Marimuthu. The film has reportedly completed its second shooting block ahead of schedule, adding to the excitement around the project. The team is said to be working at an impressive pace, with a schedule planned for four days reportedly being completed in just two days. Rajinikanth is also said to have been impressed by the filmmaker’s speed.
The film went on floors in June and has already generated considerable buzz with glimpses of Rajinikanth’s character. The Superstar plays a doctor in the film, with the makers presenting him as ‘The Deadly Doctor’. The first look and subsequent updates have hinted at an action-oriented world, while the story details continue to remain under wraps.
Ashwath Marimuthu is expected to bring a different flavour to the Superstar’s filmography by combining his trademark commercial appeal with thriller elements. The director has previously described the project as a blend of Padayappa and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, suggesting that the film will balance Rajinikanth’s mass presence with a more intense narrative.
Produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Dharman features Simran as the female lead, while Ram Pothineni and Raashii Khanna is also part of the cast. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, with Niketh Bommi handling cinematography, Pradeep E Raghav taking care of editing and the action choreography by Anbariv.
The fast progress has further increased expectations around Dharman, especially with Rajinikanth currently juggling multiple high-profile projects. The makers are reportedly targeting a completion of the principal shoot in the coming months, with the film expected to arrive during the Pongal 2027 season.
With Rajinikanth’s intriguing doctor avatar, Ashwath Marimuthu’s ambitious vision and Kamal Haasan backing the project, Dharman continues to emerge as one of the most awaited films on the Tamil cinema calendar.
