The team behind OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood has officially welcomed veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah to the project. The announcement has generated excitement among cinema fans, as it marks the actor’s return to Tamil cinema after a gap of 26 years.
Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and headlined by Dhanush, the film is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of 2026. Naseeruddin Shah joins an ensemble cast that already includes Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and Indrans in key roles.
For Tamil audiences, Shah is best remembered for his performance in Kamal Haasan’s Hey Ram, released in 2000. The acclaimed actor portrayed Mahatma Gandhi in the historical drama, which remains his only Tamil film to date. With OM Chapter 1, he is set to make a long-awaited comeback to the industry.
The project will also reunite Shah with Mammootty nearly three decades after they shared screen space in the Malayalam classic Ponthan Mada. Their reunion is expected to be one of the film’s major highlights.
Apart from bringing together several acclaimed performers, OM Chapter 1 features multiple notable reunions. Director Rajkumar Periasamy collaborates once again with Sai Pallavi after the success of Amaran, while Dhanush and Sai Pallavi reunite following Maari 2. Mammootty, meanwhile, returns to Tamil cinema after his critically acclaimed performance in Peranbu.
Backed by Wunderbar Films in association with R Take Studios, the film boasts a strong technical crew. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music, while Ezhil Arasu handles cinematography. Editing is by Kalaivanan, with Sandy overseeing choreography and Yannick Ben designing the action sequences.
While the makers have not revealed details about the storyline, the addition of Naseeruddin Shah has further increased curiosity around the film. With a powerful cast and an experienced creative team, OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood continues to build momentum.
