The shooting of Dhanush’s 54th film, tentatively titled D54, has officially been completed. The update was confirmed after videos from the film’s wrap-up celebrations began circulating on social media, signalling the end of principal photography. Directed by Vignesh Raja, who made a strong impression with Por Thozhil, the film features Mamitha Baiju as the female lead.
The project was formally announced earlier this year after considerable speculation around the collaboration between Dhanush and Vignesh Raja. The announcement poster immediately drew attention, featuring Dhanush standing in a field engulfed in flames, accompanied by the striking line, “Sometimes staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive.” The imagery hinted at an intense narrative and set expectations high.
Adding to the intrigue, the makers unveiled a fresh still on Dhanush’s birthday, showing the actor inside a phone booth attempting to make a call. The old style booth suggested a setting from a bygone era, sparking curiosity about the film’s timeline and thematic approach. The visual reinforced the film’s grounded and gritty tone.
Produced by Ishari K Ganesh under the Vels Film International banner, D54 brings together a strong technical team. GV Prakash Kumar handles the music, while Theni Eswar is in charge of cinematography and Sreejith Sarang oversees editing. The film also marks a reunion between Vignesh Raja and his Por Thozhil co-writer Alfred Prakash, further raising expectations for a tightly written narrative. While the makers have indicated a February release window, an official date is yet to be announced.
D54 also features an ensemble cast comprising Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, KS Ravikumar, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Kushmitha, and Nitin Sathyaa, among others. With filming wrapped and post production underway, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a compelling addition to Dhanush’s filmography.
