Dhanush’s collaboration with filmmaker Por Thozhil fame Vignesh Raja (previously referred to as D54) has been officially titled Kara, producers announced marking Pongal day. The update came via Vels Film International, the banner backing the project, accompanied by the striking new posters featuring Dhanush an intense portrait and another in a hunt mode.
The makers released a title announcement video featuring Dhanush as Karasamy, promising a tense, high-octane action film rooted in a rugged 1990s milieu.
Director Vignesh Raja, known for his acclaimed work on Por Thozhil, co-wrote the screenplay with his longtime collaborator Alfred Prakash. The creative partnership reunites the duo behind a project that appears poised to blend high stakes with visceral drama.
Kara is slated for a summer 2026 theatrical release, with production reportedly complete and post-production underway. Netflix has already secured the film’s digital streaming rights, underscoring the project’s prominence ahead of its rollout. The ensemble cast includes Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, and Prithvi Pandiraj, suggesting a rich mix of talent across pivotal roles. Cinematography is handled by Theni Eswar, the music is composed by GV Prakash, and editing is by Sreejith Sarang, with Mayapandi serving as art director.
While plot details remain under wraps, the promotional imagery, especially Dhanush framed by fire and a bold tagline, hints at an intense narrative, possibly involving survival themes in a rural setting. As his 54th film, Kara marks another significant entry in Dhanush’s diverse body of work, with expectations running high among fans and industry observers alike.
