Actor Dhanush addressed the ongoing debate surrounding his recent National Award win during a blood donation drive organised by his fan clubs. The actor not only responded to the criticism over his award but also delivered an inspiring message to his supporters, encouraging them to dedicate their collective strength towards social welfare initiatives.
Reacting to the criticism that followed his National Award for Raayan, Dhanush acknowledged that several viewers felt films such as Meiyazhagan and Maharaja were stronger contenders last year. However, he pointed out that when many of his own critically acclaimed performances went unrewarded, the same level of discussion was absent.
The actor cited films including Pudhupettai, Mayakkam Enna, Maryan, Raanjhanaa, Vada Chennai, and Karnan, saying many believed those performances deserved National recognition. He remarked that while nearly 90 percent of people are now questioning his latest National Award, very few had voiced support when those earlier films missed out.
Dhanush further reflected on his long journey, recalling how many expected him to win a National Award for Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam and later Pudhupettai, but it did not happen. He said certain achievements arrive only at the right time despite one’s sincere efforts, adding that he had given his honest hard work to Raayan and was grateful that recognition had finally come his way.
Urging people not to pull others down, Dhanush said, “Thatti Kudunga… Thatti Vidaadhinga,” asking everyone to appreciate and encourage achievements rather than criticise them. He also quoted actor Ajith Kumar’s popular line, saying, “As Ajith Sir said, nobody can defeat you until you accept defeat yourself,” before lightening the mood with his dialogue, “If you are bad… I’m your dad.”
Apart from addressing the award controversy, Dhanush’s speech also grabbed attention for what many interpreted as a subtle political message. Speaking to the large gathering of fans, he emphasised that such unity should have a meaningful purpose beyond film events and celebrations.
The actor urged his fans to come together for welfare activities, asking them to help people in their localities and extend support to families around them. He said he wanted to feel even prouder of his fans by seeing them contribute positively to society, rather than limiting their association to audio launches and fan meet-ups.
While Dhanush did not make any direct announcement regarding politics, his remarks have sparked fresh speculation about a possible future political entry, with many viewing his emphasis on public service as a significant hint.
On the professional front, Dhanush is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film, OM, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. Adding to the excitement, the film’s first single is set to be unveiled tomorrow as a special treat to mark the actor’s birthday. After completing OM, Dhanush is expected to move on to his next project with director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, which will be backed by Dawn Pictures.
