Dei Machan Dev
She Is My Girl
Oru Nooru Murai
Engade Nee Ponae
A classy, trademark return for Harris Jayaraj.
Summary : Dev is an enjoyable soundtrack from Harris, who proves that his mojo is alive even after a hiatus. The entire album consists of love songs with little room for mood exploration, but Harris still makes sure he has enough variety here. Three out of five work very well, and should make it big with time.
Cast: Karthi, Rakul Preet
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Lyrics: Vivek, Rajath, Thaamarai, Kabilan
Director: Rajath Ravishankar
Dei Machan Dev: Singers – Naresh Iyer, Malavika Menon, Velmurugan
Just like what it tries to tell, this is a free-flowing track that goes the right way on the whole. The instrumentations and the rendition never eat into each other, despite some lazy lyric writing by Vivek. Harris keeps the backgrounds simple, unleashing his cards in the interludes alone. A repeat-worthy track for sure, our PICK.
She Is My Girl: Singers – Haricharan, Christopher Stanley, Mahathi
The MJ type of singing really helps this song get a new sleeve, with Haricharan being on high efficiency mode on the other side. Though this one does provide some kind of a deja-vu to Harris’ other tracks, it works to an extent.
Anangae: Singers – Hariharan, Bharath Sundar, Krish, Tippu, Christopher, Arjun Chandy, Sharanya Gopinath
What a long list of singers, even without having Devan Ekambaram in the mix. Harris’ tune is a copy/tribute to Michael Jackson, but he makes sure the song is listenable wholly. A majority of the contribution comes from the singers, who sometimes get only a line or two but still end up producing the good effect.
Oru Nooru Murai: Singers – Sathya Prakash, Shakthisree Gopalan
Picking the right singers is important for such a song, and Harris does the job in taking in Sathya Prakash and Shaktisree. Thamarai’s lyrics stand out in many parts here, making it worthwhile. Our PICK.
Engade Nee Ponae: Singer – SP Balasubhramanyam
SPB is an interesting pick once again for a pathos track like this, but the tune is too basic for us to invest in fully.
