Delhi High Court bars Ravi Mohan Studios from using the title “Bro Code”

The Delhi High Court has issued an interim injunction against Ravi Mohan Studios, restricting the use of the title Bro Code over a trademark dispute.

The Delhi High Court has issued an interim injunction restraining Ravi Mohan Studios from using the title Bro Code for its upcoming film, following a trademark dispute filed by a beverage manufacturer. The movie, which will be directed by Karthik Yogi, best known for Dikkiloona: stars SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, Shraddha Srinath,Sri Gouri Priya, Malavika Manoj and Ravi Mohan, who also serves as producer and actor. The film had already generated early buzz with its announcement teaser and promotional campaigns before the legal issue surfaced.

The dispute originated from Indo Spirit Beverages, which claims ownership of the registered trademark “BRO CODE,” a liquor brand marketed since 2015. The company argued that using the same name for a film could cause public confusion and dilute its established brand reputation.

In its order, Justice Tejas Karia observed that the film studio’s use of the title, at first glance, appeared to infringe on the beverage company’s trademark rights and could mislead consumers. Consequently, the court prohibited Ravi Mohan Studios from using “Bro Code” or any deceptively similar name across promotional content, including teasers, posters, digital media, and advertisements, until the next hearing on December 23rd.

However, the injunction does not prevent the production of the film itself. The restriction applies only to the use of the disputed title in any form of public communication. This development underscores the growing significance of trademark awareness and due diligence in the Indian film industry, where creative titles often overlap with commercial brands. The makers of Bro Code must now decide whether to contest the ruling, secure rights to the title, or proceed under a new name pending the court’s final decision.
