DC has achieved a major milestone at the worldwide box office, crossing the 100 crore mark in just two weeks of its theatrical run. The Arun Matheswaran directorial has continued its strong performance after receiving positive reactions from audiences and critics.
The film opened in theatres on August 7th and started with a modest figure of nearly 5 crore. However, positive word of mouth helped the action thriller gain momentum over the following days. The film crossed the 50 crore milestone within five days and has now doubled that figure globally.
This also marks a significant achievement for Lokesh Kanagaraj, who made his acting debut with the film. His performance as Devadas has received appreciation, while Arun Matheswaran’s writing and direction have also been among the major talking points surrounding the movie.
DC follows Devadas, an outsider who attempts to protect an innocent family after they become victims of police brutality. The ensuing journey brings together elements of action, justice, redemption and unlikely relationships. Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy play the female leads, while Thalaivasal Vijay and Kasthuri Raja appear in important roles.
The film has also received appreciation from several prominent names in the industry. Suriya, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Soundarya Rajinikanth and Vignesh Shivan, among others, have praised the film and its craft. Mahesh Babu described it as an original and outstanding film, while Allu Arjun called it a Tamil classic.
Another major attraction has been Anirudh’s music, with the film featuring a 15-track album that has also received attention from audiences. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, DC has cinematography by Mukesh, editing by GK Prasanna and stunt choreography by PC Stunts.
With 100 crore worldwide in two weeks, DC has emerged as a successful theatrical outing and a notable milestone in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s transition from filmmaker to lead actor. The film’s continued box-office run will now determine how much further it can push its worldwide total.
