Vijay Sethupathi joins forces with Balaji Tharaneetharan once again for Baththa, which promises a fresh outing and arrives in theatres this October.

The first look of Baththa, starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, has been unveiled, bringing the popular actor-director duo together for their third collaboration. The film is presented by filmmaker Atlee and is set to hit theatres worldwide on October 1, 2026.

The first-look poster presents Vijay Sethupathi in a stylish retro avatar, sporting a bright shirt, sunglasses and a thick gold chain. The striking appearance hints at a period setting and showcases the actor in a distinctly different makeover.

Baththa marks the reunion of Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan after their earlier collaborations Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. The duo’s third outing has already created interest, particularly with Atlee coming on board as the presenter.

Atlee’s announcement also carries a playful reference to Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, the 2012 sleeper hit that brought Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan together. The filmmaker described their third collaboration as a potential “banger”, further adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

The film features Lijomol Jose as the female lead, while music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar. The technical crew includes cinematographer Selva Kumar SK and editor R Kalaivanan.

While the makers have kept the story details under wraps, the retro styling in the first look has sparked curiosity about the world and character Vijay Sethupathi will be portraying. Balaji Tharaneetharan is known for bringing unconventional ideas and distinctive characters to his films, making this reunion particularly intriguing.
