Baaram wins best Tamil film at National Film Awards 2019

Director Priya Krishnasamy’s Baaram, which revolves around Thalaikoothal – the traditional practice of killing if the elderly or involuntary euthanasia by their own family members, fetched the best feature film award for Tamil in regional category at 66th National Film awards.

Baaram was one of the films selected for the Indian Panorama section of the 49th International Film Festival of India, which was held earlier this year. The film is yet to receive a theatrical release in Tamil Nadu.

This is the first time that Tamil cinema has not received any awards at the country’s prestigious event at least in the last ten years.
