Ashwath Marimuthu’s upcoming film Dharman, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, is now expected to release in April 2027. The film was initially speculated to arrive during the Pongal festive season next year. However, the director has reportedly clarified that the team was never planning a Pongal release.
During a recent interaction with journalist-turned-filmmaker and actor Chitra Lakshmanan, Ashwath Marimuthu reportedly explained the film’s release plans. He stated that considerable work is still pending and that the team needs more time to complete the project. As a result, Dharman is now expected to reach theatres around April 2027.
With Dharman moving out of the Pongal race, Pa. Ranjith’s Vettuvam has confirmed its arrival for the festive season. The film features Arya, Gethu Dinesh and others in prominent roles. The announcement has added another notable Tamil release to the Pongal 2027 lineup.
Meanwhile, Vishal and Sundar C’s Purushan is also reportedly eyeing a Pongal 2027 release. However, the makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding its theatrical plans. With several films looking to capitalize on the long festive holidays, the Pongal release lineup is expected to become clearer in the coming months.
As the release plans continue to take shape, it remains to be seen which other Tamil films will join the Pongal 2027 box-office race.
