Arun Vijay opens up about dual roles, story-driven action in Retta Thala
Arun Vijay says Retta Thala is a tight, two-hour action thriller where contrasting characters, decisive choices, and consequences drive the story toward a major climax twist.
Arun Vijay, who headlines the upcoming action thriller Retta Thala, has opened up about the film’s core narrative, his dual roles, and what sets the project apart from conventional action entertainers.
Speaking about the film, Arun Vijay revealed that Retta Thala revolves around two completely contrasting characters, each existing at different poles. Drawing a comparison with Thadam, the actor noted that while the earlier film showcased contrast between twin characters, Retta Thala takes the idea further by presenting two entirely different individuals who eventually intersect at a crucial point in the story.
“The moment these two characters come together, the consequences that follow especially a critical decision taken by one of them, form the crux of the film,” Arun Vijay explained. He added that the narrative unfolds around these repercussions, leading to a major twist in the climax, with both characters playing equally powerful roles.
Arun Vijay appears in two distinct looks in the film. One of them is Malpe Upendra, a character hailing from a town called Malpe, sporting thick hair and a beard, and backed by a unique backstory. The actor also portrays Kali, another pivotal character, marking a sharp contrast in personality and presentation.
The actor further revealed that Retta Thala has a runtime of just two hours, with action sequences that are entirely story-driven. “We have experimented and tried new ways of presenting action differently,” he said, adding that despite being an action thriller, the film’s emotional spine revolves around love.
Directed by Kris Thirukumaran of Maan Karate and Gethu fame, Retta Thala also stars Siddhi Idnani, Tanya Ravichandran, and Yogesh in key roles. The film’s music is composed by Sam CS. Retta Thala is gearing up for a wide theatrical release on Christmas, December 25th, as the promotions are in full swing both online & offline, and is positioned as a tight, intense action thriller with emotional depth.
