AR Murugadoss spills the beans on Madharaasi in recent interview

Director AR Murugadoss discusses the meaning behind the title, the Chennai-based setting, and why the team is opting for minimal promotions ahead of release.

In a recent chat with Valai Pechu, director AR Murugadoss opened up about his upcoming film Madharaasi, shedding light on the intriguing title and promotional strategy. When questioned about the North Indian-sounding title and its relevance, Murugadoss clarified, “The story is set in Chennai. The title Madharaasi is from the villain’s point of view – North Indians often refer to South Indians by that term.” He emphasized that the title was his own choice, acknowledging that while older or unconventional titles may feel odd initially, audiences tend to warm up to them over time.

Murugadoss also shared insights on the film’s marketing approach. “We are building the hype slowly for Madharaasi. It’s important not to over promote and create false expectations. Sivakarthikeyan already has a massive fan-base, so we are planning limited promotions,” he said.

The film features music by Anirudh and a stellar cast including Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jamwal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth in key roles. With AR Murugadoss at the helm, Madharaasi is Kollywood’s next big release, hitting screens worldwide on September 5th.

A newly extended glimpse of Madharaasi is currently being screened in cinemas alongside Coolie. It’s a big week for the team, with the film’s trailer expected to be released this week.
