AR Murugadoss meets CM Vijay amid growing Sarkar nostalgia

Director AR Murugadoss’ meeting with Tamil Nadu CM Vijay rekindles memories of Sarkar, as fans connect the film’s political arc with reality.

Director AR Murugadoss recently met Vijay, creating a moment that many fans described as “real-life Sarkar.” Pictures from their meeting quickly went viral on social media, with cinephiles drawing comparisons between Vijay’s present political journey and the storyline of their 2018 blockbuster Sarkar.

In the film, Vijay portrayed Sundar, a successful corporate figure who returns to Tamil Nadu to cast his vote, only to discover that it has been fraudulently used. The incident pushes him into politics as he fights electoral corruption and eventually emerges as a major political force. While the character ultimately refuses the Chief Minister post in the film, reality has taken a different route, with Vijay now serving as the elected CM of Tamil Nadu.

AR Murugadoss and Vijay share a successful collaboration history through films like Thuppakki, Kaththi, and Sarkar, all of which turned out to be major box-office hits and strengthened their filmmaker-actor association over the years.

The renewed attention around Sarkar has also brought back memories of the controversies surrounding the film’s release in 2018. Earlier this month, Murugadoss recalled the tense political climate during the film’s theatrical run, revealing that posters and banners of the movie were torn down amid protests.

Since Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister, several personalities from the Tamil film industry have been meeting him to extend their wishes.
