Jailer 2 Box Office: Rajinikanth’s film sets first-week record in Tamil cinema

In its first seven days, Jailer 2 crosses ₹549 crore worldwide, setting a new first-week benchmark for Tamil cinema and moving closer to the lifetime collections of Leo and Jailer.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has made a strong impact at the worldwide box office, collecting over ₹549 crore in its first seven days, according to an announcement by its production house, Sun Pictures. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action entertainer has reportedly registered the biggest first-week collection in Tamil cinema history. The film’s performance has strengthened its position among the year’s biggest theatrical successes and brought two major box-office targets into focus: the lifetime collections of Leo and the original Jailer.

The sequel has performed particularly well across several markets outside Tamil Nadu. Its reach across the rest of India and overseas has helped drive the worldwide total, making it one of the strongest opening-week performers for a Tamil film. While its domestic response remains substantial, the contribution from other territories has played an important role in pushing the overall collection beyond 500 crore. The film is now moving closer to the lifetime totals of Leo and Jailer, both of which set significant benchmarks for Tamil cinema.

Based on the trade figures cited for the first seven days, Jailer 2 has collected approximately 135 crore gross in the state. Vijay’s Leo, by comparison, earned more than 167 crore gross in Tamil Nadu during its first week. This leaves Jailer 2 behind its predecessor in the home market, despite its stronger overall position when collections from other territories are taken into account. The contrast highlights how a film’s worldwide performance can differ from its performance in its home territory.

The worldwide numbers, meanwhile, place Jailer 2 in a strong position to challenge the lifetime collections of both films. Leo is widely reported to have grossed around 620 crore worldwide, while Jailer collected approximately 600 crore during its theatrical run, although estimates vary across trade sources. With more than 549 crore already reported in its first week, the sequel is within striking distance of these milestones. Its performance over the coming days will determine how quickly it can move past them.

The film features Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Nelson returning to direct the sequel and Anirudh Ravichander composing the music. The ensemble cast includes Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Namo Narayana, among others. The combination of Rajinikanth’s star appeal, action sequences, humor and appearances by prominent actors has helped the film attract audiences across markets.

With its record-setting first week behind it, Jailer 2 now enters a crucial phase of its theatrical run. Sustaining collections beyond the opening period will be key to surpassing the lifetime totals of Leo and Jailer. Although its Tamil Nadu numbers trail Leo’s first-week performance, its wider market reach has given the sequel a strong advantage in the worldwide race. The coming days will reveal whether Rajinikanth and Nelson can take the film past these major milestones and establish a new benchmark for Tamil cinema.
