Jailer 2 Super Show: Rajinikanth speech on Anirudh, Nelson and his unwavering love for fans
At the Jailer 2 Super Show, Rajinikanth shares insights into Nelson’s sequel, praises Anirudh’s work, reflects on his humble beginnings, and explains why he remains grateful to fans.

Superstar Rajinikanth shared several interesting insights about Jailer 2 during the film’s Super Show, discussing why he agreed to the sequel, why he turned down the ideas for Baashha 2 and Petta 2, and how he continues to value his roots despite his stardom.
During his conversation with director Nelson Dilipkumar, Rajinikanth explained what convinced him to return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in Jailer 2. He revealed that watching the first film on OTT helped him understand the potential for a sequel, particularly through the way Nelson established Varma’s influence and criminal connections.
Rajinikanth pointed out that Varma’s international network was subtly established through several scenes in Jailer. Even the police were afraid of him because of his powerful connections. The character also warned the jailer that his men would come after him, creating a natural foundation for another chapter. Rajinikanth added that the three containers worth thousands of crores introduced in the story gave the rival gangsters another reason to pursue the jailer.
He also highlighted the support Muthuvel Pandian has within the criminal underworld, including influential figures and dons in Nagpur jail. These elements convinced him that Nelson had created a strong foundation for the sequel. Impressed by the possibilities, Rajinikanth said he contacted the director after watching the film and felt that the idea was promising.
The Superstar also explained why he was not interested in returning for Baashha 2 and Petta 2, despite the interesting story possibilities. Regarding Baashha 2, he noted that revealing Manickam’s identity as a living gangster would naturally invite retaliation from rival gangs and continued police scrutiny. Although the premise offered room for another story, it did not appeal to him.
Rajinikanth also acknowledged that Karthik Subbaraj had developed an interesting idea for Petta 2, building on Vijay Sethupathi’s character and the revenge possibilities left open by the first film. However, he maintained that the idea did not interest him enough to pursue another installment. His remarks highlighted how a sequel needs to offer more than an existing character and an unresolved conflict to win his approval.
Speaking about the absence of a conventional audio launch for Jailer 2, Rajinikanth said the production house wanted to move away from the familiar format of large indoor events. He explained that such functions often run for several hours, leaving audiences restless. The team therefore opted for separate interviews with the cast and crew instead. However, he admitted that he felt sad about not meeting his fans in person and promised to make up for it in the future.
Jailer 2 gears for a grand worldwide release on October 15th.
