Rashmika Mandanna to bring MS Subbulakshmi’s life to the big screen

Rashmika Mandanna is set to portray legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi in the upcoming biopic titled M.S – A Legacy On Screen. The film was officially launched on MS Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary, with veteran actor Kamal Haasan giving the first clap at the event.

The launch event brought together Rashmika Mandanna, Kamal Haasan and veteran producer Allu Aravind. The project aims to bring the life and legacy of one of India’s most celebrated musicians to the big screen, with Rashmika taking on the challenging role of the iconic singer.

Speaking at the event, Rashmika expressed her gratitude for getting the opportunity to portray MS Subbulakshmi. She recalled the impact of the singer’s voice and said she felt that there was a unique divine quality to it. Rashmika also promised to give her best to the role and approach the character with sincerity.

Kamal Haasan, meanwhile, spoke about MS Subbulakshmi’s contribution to Indian music and her ability to connect audiences across regions. He highlighted how she sang in several languages, including Sanskrit and Hindi, and described her music as a unifying force, particularly across South India.

The veteran actor also compared the responsibility of portraying MS Subbulakshmi to the challenge of playing a global icon such as Michael Jackson. According to Kamal Haasan, the role demands more than simply resembling the personality, as Rashmika will also have to capture the compassion and presence associated with the legendary singer.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the biopic will feature Rashmika Mandanna as MS Subbulakshmi, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music. With the project now officially launched, more details about its cast, production and release plans are expected to be announced in the coming days.
