Mandaadi: Soori opens up about Vetrimaaran, Title meaning and Gruelling sea shoot
Soori reveals how Mandaadi’s challenging sea shoot unfolded while explaining the title’s meaning and thanking Vetrimaaran for his support throughout his career.
The audio launch of Soori’s upcoming film Mandaadi turned emotional as the actor opened up about the film’s making, his journey in cinema and the contribution of filmmaker Vetrimaaran to his career.
Directed by Mathirmaran, Mandaadi stars Soori, Mahima Nambiar and Suhas in important roles, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on September 10.
Speaking at the event, Soori expressed his gratitude towards Vetrimaaran and acknowledged the filmmaker’s role in shaping his career. He said that whatever he has achieved so far, and whatever he achieves in the future, will have Vetrimaaran’s contribution behind it. The actor also appreciated the filmmaker’s belief in the project and the team’s commitment to bringing its challenging elements to the screen.
Soori also explained the meaning behind the film’s unusual title. According to him, Mandaadi refers to the person who leads and guides a six-member team involved in a boat race. He recalled that the title initially left many people confused because of its unfamiliarity, but the meaning is closely connected to the film’s world.
Another interesting revelation from the event was about the film’s demanding production. Soori revealed that the original plan was to shoot around 80 per cent of the film in a swimming pool, with only 20 per cent planned to be filmed in the sea. However, the plan changed during production, and the team eventually spent nearly two months shooting in the sea.
The actor spoke about the physical and emotional challenges involved in the extended schedule. The cast and crew had to remain away from their families for a considerable period, with video calls becoming their primary way of staying connected with their loved ones.
Soori also expressed confidence in the final product and said he believes audiences will connect with the film. He praised GV Prakash Kumar’s contribution to the project and suggested that the composer’s work would be better appreciated once the film reaches theatres.
Mandaadi is positioned as a sea-based sports drama with thriller elements. The film’s extensive real-location shoot and the challenges faced during production have already created curiosity among audiences. With Soori leading the project, Mathirmaran at the helm and GV Prakash Kumar handling the music, Mandaadi is certified UA and gearing up for its September 10 theatrical release.
