Jana Nayagan Box Office Day 1: Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film opens with 31 crore gross in Tamil Nadu
Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan grosses 31 crore in Tamil Nadu on Day 1, registering the biggest opening of 2026 despite piracy leaks and release hurdles.

Thalapathy Vijay has once again reaffirmed his status as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest crowd pullers. Despite facing HD print leaks, release delays and mixed word-of-mouth in certain quarters, Jana Nayagan has delivered a phenomenal opening at the Tamil Nadu box office.
According to trade estimates, Jana Nayagan has grossed an impressive 31 crore in Tamil Nadu on its opening day, making it the biggest Day 1 opener of 2026 by a comfortable margin. The remarkable opening reflects Vijay’s unparalleled fan following and the excitement surrounding his much-awaited farewell film.
With this achievement, Jana Nayagan has also secured a place among the biggest opening-day grossers in Tamil cinema history. The film becomes Thalapathy Vijay’s fifth-highest opener, following Beast, Leo, Sarkar, and The GOAT.
Interestingly, Jana Nayagan now shares the fifth position on the all-time Tamil Nadu opening-day grossers list with Coolie, which also collected 31 crore on its opening day in 2025. The next film on the list is Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, which occupies the sixth spot.
The strong opening becomes even more significant considering the challenges the film encountered before its release. Despite piracy concerns, audiences turned up in large numbers, once again underlining Vijay’s unmatched box office pull.
With advance bookings remaining solid throughout the opening weekend, Jana Nayagan is well on course to post record-breaking collections over the next few days. Industry trackers now expect the film to continue its impressive run and strengthen its position among the biggest commercial successes of the year.
