Indian 3 races toward December release with 80% of shooting complete

Veteran film journalist, film-maker and actor Chitra Lakshmanan has revealed a major update on the much-anticipated Indian 3, sparking excitement among Kamal Haasan fans. According to Lakshmanan, nearly 80% of the film’s shooting has already been completed, and early viewers have praised it as being on par with the original Indian (1996), which is considered a cult classic.

Following the underwhelming response to Indian 2, there was speculation that Indian 3 might be shelved. Rumors of production delays and internal conflicts further fueled doubts about the film’s future. However, Lakshmanan’s latest statement confirms that director Shankar and Kamal Haasan are now fully focused on wrapping up the third installment.

Interestingly, sources suggest that Superstar Rajinikanth played a key role in reviving Indian 3 by initiating discussions between Lyca Productions, Shankar, and Kamal. Originally, Indian 2 was meant to be a single film, but due to its lengthy runtime and production delays, it was split into two parts; a decision that did not work out as planned.

Insiders reveal that the most powerful and emotional scenes are saved for Indian 3, which is why the team is determined to release it despite Indian 2’s poor performance. Both Kamal and Shankar are reportedly confident that this film will be a major success.

Indian 3 is now expected to hit theatres by December 2025, and fans are hopeful it will deliver the kind of cinematic impact that made the original a landmark in Tamil cinema.
